Living the Christian Life Magazine

George Müller was the faithful servant whom God used mightily He was an ordinary man. But his undeniable faith, implicit trust and love for God has an intriguing parallel with many of the Biblical characters.

One of the many fascinating aspects of George Müller's life is that it illustrates very simply the power of God. George Müller received £1,500,000 in answer to prayer without ever needing to ask for funds. At present day prices, this would be well over £75,000,000.

God used George Mueller wonderfully in an abundance of ministries. Simultaneously he pastored a church of 1,200 members; operated Sunday schools that taught and evangelized thousands of children; housed, fed clothed, taught and evangelized 2,050 orphans annually for decades; supported 187 missionaries; organized the Scriptural Knowledge Institute that distributed vast quantities of Bibles, Scripture portions, and tracts. Relying solely upon God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and prayer he supported all of these works.

Mr. Mueller never accepted a salary for any of these ministries. Neither did he tell anyone of his personal need nor any of the ministries needs. He told only God and God honoured and anointed him mightily.

He had read his Bible from end to end almost 200 times.  He had prayed in millions of pounds (in today's currency for the Orphans and never asked anyone directly for money. He never took a salary in the last 68 years of his ministry, but trusted God to put in people's hearts to send him what he needed. He never took out a loan or went into debt. And neither he nor the orphans were ever hungry

All the money and workers came as a direct result of prayer with no debts being incurred and no appeals or requests were ever made. There are many remarkable stories of the answers to prayer and the work continues to be a testimony to His faithfulness and grace of God.

'Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.'

George Müller's total obedience was rewarded by the fulfilment of God's promise.

From the very outset of his Christian life He set out to prove God to be the mighty all-powerful God. When he was first saved he saw much which contrary to Bible teaching. It was this weakness in the Church, which gave him the desire to prove God.
